Wireless detachable DSLR lens for iPhone (Concept)

Friday, April 29, 2011 0 comments
The primary reason why you can take better pictures with a DSLR than with your iPhone isn't the sensor, it's the lens. This concept camera keeps all that sexy DSLR glass, and then makes the rest of the camera into something that's iPhone-sized and detachable, even while you're taking pics.

The basic idea behind the WVIL concept is that you can take any lens that you already have (Canon, Nikon, anything) and screw a little cap onto the back which contains a 31 megapixel full-frame sensor and a wireless module.

Automatic slingshot

Gatling guns have been the first firearms with a firing rate close to modern machine guns. Their principle is easy: A set of rotating barrels is turned by cranking a wheel, with one barrel after the other firing a round when it is in shooting position. This makes them technically and legally a repeating gun, not a full auto one - but it is close enough.

The Slingshot Channel took the challenge to design a rubber powered version of Mr. Gatling's great invention. And here it is: Eight 20 mm balls, on their way to the target in less than half a second. The theoretical firing rate is 960 rounds per minute, slightly faster than the popular M16 assault rifle.

WVIL unbelievable new camera at CES 2011

Thursday, April 14, 2011 0 comments
Saw this crazy new camera on the floor of CES and had to post. The guys who made it say it shoots with the lens removed and boasts 31 megapixels! WTF? Plus I'm not totally sure but it looks like the back of the camera is a smartphone?? And he mentioned about posting your photos directly to Facebook. Tried to ask the guy but he didn't want me shooting after his phone rang.

OLED panel lighting from Verbatim

Verbatim has launched the world's first commercially available, colour tunable organic LED (OLED) lighting panels at the Fuori Salone show in Milan. The OLEDs are based on unique materials technology developed by Verbatim's parent company, Mitsubishi Chemical Holding Group which, as one of the world's major chemical companies, has over 50 years' experience in developing lighting materials. Full-scale production of OLED panels will start from July.

See Video

The video shows how Verbatim demonstrated the creativity and beauty of colour tunable and white tone tunable OLED panels, thought to be the world's largest at approximately 14cm x 14cm*. Its display, created by lighting designer Satoshi Uchihara, was located in the Design Library srl, Via Savona 11, 20144 Milan.

The large surfaces of Verbatim OLEDs, branded VELVE, produce a soft light, free from glare and with deeply saturated colours. The OLEDs, which do not contain hazardous materials, are very efficient, producing 28 lumens per Watt output at 1000 cd/m2 with accurate colour rendering (high CRI). Colour tuning and white tone tuning allow the mood of a space to be varied to suit its function at the time. For example, it may be changed from a workspace requiring bright, cool light, to a place of relaxation with warm, subdued lighting.

The panels are designed for general lighting, furniture lighting and other applications. Verbatim sells the OLEDs directly to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in these sectors.

Snake Robot Climbs a Tree

Wednesday, April 13, 2011 0 comments
From the Biorobotics Lab at Carnegie Mellon University, a snake robot (Snakebot) demonstrates how it can climb a tree and look around.

Please keep in mind that this robot climbed a specific tree with a specific trunk width about 1 meter off of the ground. The researchers working to design, build and program these robots still have much work to do to get these bots to climb taller trees of various sizes and to navigate over branches and wires.

Huge Docking station for iPhone 4

The iPhone is huge, we all know. Tons of companies bring portable docking stations to the market for consumers, but what about one in your Coffee table? Let's make it motorized as well, to allow the customer to use the table as... well a table, then when they want music, Swipe their hands across the touch sensitive controls and the hi...gh quality sound rises from what looked like was a design in the table. Swipe again, your music stops, and the motorized sound-bar , equipped with 8 high-end transducer speakers, glides right back down as if there was nothing even there. Topping it all off, there is a 6" down-firing subwoofer to complete the crystal clear sound.

Introducing, the entirely Hand-crafted iTable. This coffee table, has two aluminum trimmed cup-holders, that will light your drinks up with the touch of a button. On the front, there is 4 controls. LED on/off, Volume up & Down, and the motorization control. Each button was laser engraved, then hand-cut to fit on the control pad. Simply touch the metal buttons to activate each identified switch. touch both volume up & down at the same time, and you will mute the song playing on your iPhone 4, that was charging ever since you docked the device into the table.

The design of this table is pretty contemporary. With 96 stainless steel hex-head bolts holding on the the wrap-around rails, all spaced with custom milled 1/4" spacers. The top is a flat black surface, that has a finish that is almost scratch-proof.

This table is made for the iPhone 4, but can be interchangeable upon request to fit your device. This is the debut of this category produced by Kyle Buckner Designs. INC., but stay tuned for an entire line of the interactive furniture. "Connect With Your Furniture."
